College Hoops Betting Odds: UC-Irvine Anteaters at LSU Tigers

LSU Tigers coach Trent Johnson did well on the recruiting trail last year, bringing in guard Anthony Hickey from Kentucky and Johnny O’Bryant III to headline his class and installing them both into the starting lineup. While the offense has been predictably inconsistent, the Tigers have stood out on the defensive end. LSU has held its last three opponents to an average of 51 points and is coming off a 64-45 victory over a Boise State squad that came in averaging more than 85 points on 50 percent shooting. The Tigers should not have a problem slowing UC-Irvine Anteaters when it visits the Pete Maravich Assembly Center. The Anteaters shoot less than 40 percent and were held to 48 points in beginning their three-game road trip with a loss at Wyoming on Tuesday.

The Tigers have opened as 15.5-point favorites on SBG Global Sportsbook’s Live NCAA Basketball Odds.

UC-Irvine Anteaters (2-7): The Anteaters are one of the younger teams in the NCAA this season with seven freshmen and no seniors. Irvine did not put a player in double figures against the Cowboys and committed 19 turnovers. That setback ended a two-game winning streak. Junior guard Daman Starring leads the Anteaters in scoring at 12.9 points and is their biggest threat from long range, connecting on 51.7 percent of his 3-point attempts.

LSU Tigers (6-3): The Tigers do not have a player averaging more than Andre Stringer’s 12.1 points but spread the offense around enough that six players are averaging at least 8.2. Stringer missed Saturday’s win over Boise State because of a fainting spell and is day-to-day. Hickey shifted over to the point in that game and collected five assists and three steals. The former “Mr. Basketball” from Kentucky has plenty of help on the inside from O’Bryant and center Justin Hamilton, who are combining to average 12.4 rebounds.
